This is a, “Not to be Missed” Natural beach and Most Beautiful Beach of Goa. Since Palolem beach is crescent shaped it has a natural bay encircled by small hills on either sides of the two ends. The sea is most of the times, (except in the Monsoons), calm, serene and inviting.
Palolem Beach – Safest Swimming beach of Goa.
The sea waters of Palolem beach are considered to be the safest for swimming in Goa. Palolem has a gentle sloping sea bed which allows people to slowly walk up to 100m out from the beach. The safety feature of Palolem beach is that the sea level increases slowly and gradually as you venture & enter deeper into the sea.
Hollywood too loves Palolem beach of Goa.
The beach of Palolem village is introduced as the Indian residence of Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) in the film The Bourne Supremacy (2004). This Hollywood movie begins with the magnificent morning scenery of Palolem beach with the Hero Jason Bourne doing his early day break, jogging exercise. The opening shots in the movie gives a good impression of the natural beauty of Palolem beach - the distinguishing tree covered rocks at one end of Monkey Island and beach shacks.
Small & Walkable Beach of Palolem
The beach of Palolem is a small beach of only around 1.5 kms plus a little more and being in a curved shape, one can see visually where one is heading while walking on the beach. One can do a beach walk of Palolem from one end to the other end. The beach of Palolem is mostly unspoiled and is populated by both local fishermen and by foreign tourists who live in shacks along the shore or in the main village itself.
The world famous, “Money Stone” in Palolem.
At the top of the island touching Palolem beach there is a stone sculpture shaped by an American Conceptual and Land art artist JacekTylicki called "Give if you can - Take if you have to" also called "the Money stone". It has become a pilgrimage destination for lovers of Palolem beach. People can leave or take money at will at the Money stone.
Modern Day Palolem Beach in Goa
In the 1980’s and 1990’s Palolem beach was frequented mostly by hippies, travellers, bag packers and long staying tourists. Come 2010 onwards the tourist scene has changed a lot. Now Palolem is the Beach Cottage or Beach Hut Capital of Goa and perhaps India too.
